big issue!

Image
Today we hit a major setback! My ccr was complete and perfected but when I attempted to put it into my blog it said that it could no longer be loaded. Due to this issue I will have to re-record my ccr. Luckily I have a wonderful mother who is more than willing to be my game show questionnaire host once again.  And on the top of the screen you can see Ella consoling me after i got anxious about this issue. I’m very thankful for my partner.

Ella appreciation post

Image
I’d like to thank ella for absolutely everything that she did for me in these past few months. She is one of my closest friends and we have worked together spectacularly! We both worked and spread the work equally which was amazing compared to other partners I’ve had in the past. I greatly appreciate the work and help she has put into this magazine to make it as amazing as it is now! Thank you so much for being such a good partner and best friend ella!

Today was a very fun day! We took our final picture! It was a very silly event that made me and Ella laugh tons while shooting. We went into the stairwell and she had me do an over split but to make the photo look good I had to point my toes. The only problem with pointing your toes is you cannot do that with sneakers haha. I had to take off my shoes and my socks so that my legs and feet had clean lines like a dancer. As I am an ex dancer I am still flexible so I am able to do these flexible poses but it was a very funny and embarrassing event to do so. For example, tons of people walked by when we tried to do the photos which was very awkward for me and I quickly hid my naked feet every single time haha. Ella took a very funny picture of me as I was taking of my shoes and you can clearly see how much I was laughing. I hope you get as much of a laugh from reading this as we did making it.  Oh and one extra detail she posted it on her private story on Snapchat haha

Today was a very big day for Ella and I! We were officially inducted into NHS which is the national honors society at our school. It is an elite program of scholars at our school and we were inducted today. This caused lots of chaos and joy today for the two of us! This also struck inspiration for more articles! We had to walk across the stage to receive our certificates and pose for pictures. To many this may seem exciting which it is, but for myself this only triggered lots of anxiety because I have stage fright. This made me consider how dancers feel. Most dancers don’t have stage fright as they were forced to conquer that fear as children but no matter how many times I danced and competed on huge stages I never got over the fear and the jitters running through my bones. I had this feeling as I had to walk down the stage only for 15 seconds. This struck another idea to add to my article on how stage fright can also trigger anxiety and trigger the mental health issues in dance. ...

Today my mom and I filmed the CCR. She helped me by interviewing me and asked me the prewritten questions for me to answer in a talk show manner. She spoke in an upbeat way so that it would be entertaining to listen and watch. I sat across from her in her bedroom and we recorded with many many takes. In between many mess ups and laughs and silly moments we finally ended with an outstanding product which you will see very soon!

Hi there! Today was a very busy Saturday because i had a volleyball tournament all day! Today I took another picture of ella when i went to her dance studio after my tournament (which we won!). It was a cute pose where she held her leg up but yet again we both felt it did not meet the standards of which we wanted to meet in our magazine. I will show the picture later in this blog post. In addition to the picture taking, as i was studying for my Aice sociology exam, I realized how sociology and media are connected. We are working on how dance affects mental health but we can relate back to the sociology of human interaction. Although I finished all of the articles, I want to go back into them and talk about sociology if it fits into the piece. If it ends up working I will let you know!

Hello! Today school was cancelled AGAIN! This was a very well needed rest break so I could get a lot of work done! Within this time I’ve caught up on my sleep schedule and got it back to normal rather than how I’ve been the past few weeks jamming down the studying for my ap and Aice tests. Today me, ella, and a couple of friends met up at our friends house. We went onto canva and took a couple more pictures but they didn’t exactly turn out how we wanted them. They looked a bit too childish and were not professional enough for the magazine. This is the picture we decided to scrap.

4/13 update

Today school was cancelled because of extreme flooding due to the storm in our area so today was a very productive day! Me and Ella met up today and we worked on the ccr’s. We begun writing out the plan for the ccr and spent a lot of time on the blog posts. For example, we fact checked our resources and imported the sources into our magazine for where I got my information. For example, I took a lot of different sources on mental health and how mental health effects the dancers of the world. This is us today!

Today was a big day for me! I had my interview for Vice President of the science club which completely distracted me from everything else. Admittedly I did not get much work done today for my magazine but I did do lots of research on how dance effects emotions and the history of dance. I did this research so I can better the last article I wrote yesterday! Some of the websites I used are listed below.  https://www.Merriam-Webster.com www.oxfordlanguages dancing with class.org https://www.stageminded.com https://www.psypost.org

Hi! Today was a very successful day! I started the day with cake at 7 AM because it’s my brothers birthday so that struck an extra pep in my step. This pep in my step set me on fire to write a whole piece of the article on how dance effects stress levels, the scientific aspect of it, and then how different types of dance effect emotions. I personally love this piece so much because I can relate to it a lot since I’ve done all 5 of these styles of dance!  I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I loved writing it!

Today we were a bit silly in our photo shoot for the photos we need to include in the magazine. We already have four of out of the eight of the necessary photos. In the stairwell near the window we took some dance poses which we can edit and crop into our blog. For example,

4/6 update interview style!

Image
Happy Thursday! Today was a half day so I only had around 30 minutes to do my interview. My ex study hall teacher used to be a prima ballerina before she pursued teaching so i got an interview from her. I asked her questions these questions:  •was your mental health even effected by the rigorous needs of dance? It was challenging at times but always worth it •how long did you dance for?  Her whole life •where did you go to school?  Master of Arts (M.A.) Dance Movement/Therapy At UCLA These are just a sneak peek at the interview and the rest you can see within our magazine! -I have gained permission to post

4/5 update

Image
Today we went to a teachers room who we heard was a dancer so we could get her opinion on how her dance experience with mental health was. She is the Chorus teacher at cooper city high school and she is also a Ukrainian Dancer. The information we earned from her was how her experience has always been positive within dance and she has never does dance rigorously enough for it to effect her mental health in anyway other than positive. This interview did not generate enough for a piece in our magazine but I did learn that when you hear Ukrainian dance it is a cultural dance and not a Russian ballet type dance haha. My lesson has been learned lol.                                      this is the Ukrainian folk dance she did                              And this is what I thought that was lol

Hello all, good morning all the way from sunny Florida! Today in class is a purely blog and magazine focused day where me and my partner Ella are focused on editing and making some changes to our blog. Warm smiles during this Tuesday for Talking about our project and progress!

Good morning! Today is a great day to get a lot done. We have class today in 2nd period where we will work on our ccr writing. We are going to take an approach of an interview where our friend Mia is going to ask us interview like questions with a bit of humor mixed in as we explain our new magazine. Cant wait for you guys to see the final product!  Our ccr is in progress right now! This is an update from in class and we’ve worked on our script for thev ccr.  -Jocelyn Shipp

3/28 update

Today we made a BIG change in our magazine! We originally had four separate articles which we were going to put into our magazine but we made the hard decision to only use the article on dances effect on mental health to narrow the vision of the article rather than having multiple different scattered articles. The reason we came to this conclusion because in the other magazine examples everyone seemed to have only one main focus of their articles so we took inspiration from this and chose to scrap the other three articles written. This is also very helpful for our background as we were able to make our magazine more visually appealing because we are now focusing on the beauty and danger of dance. We include our friends whom are dancers doing poses and make our whole magazine more clean and just overall better.  Dance for the win!  -Jocelyn Shipp

3/28 update

Image
We’ve finished our layout of the background of the magazine and this is the update of it so far. The pinks are very youthful and pretty for our target audience and it appeals to many different crowds that could read our magazine. The look of it appears to be that like a cover girl magazine except it is more mental health focused.

Today was very good day as a fun and successful day. Me and bella are great friends outside of school aswell as in it and so we work very well together. Incase we never introduced ourselves this is me and Ella.  I am the blonde and bella is the brunette in the photos.  We have been best friends for two years so this has made our experience of working together all that much better! I can’t wait to see the finished product as we go on. We have a scheduled facetime for tomorrow which will cover off of the slides we’ve completed so far as well as editing the articles. Have a great end of spring break!

3/24 update

Hello from spring break! Over this spring break lots of work has been done for example we took some photos of our ballet dancer friends Olivia and London for our original portraits.  This is one of our slides from where we have Olivia and London holding dance poses. The overall scheme of our portfolio is pink in a new pop style. This is a magazine for all ages but the target audience is mostly the younger crowd and the look of it appeals to that audience. We are using canva and it has been very helpful. I myself am not very tech savvy but my partner Ella is very great with canva and we are working on each others strength, mine writing and creating, and hers putting it all together and making it beautiful. I will see you guys tomorrow for our next update where we are meeting and working on placing the pieces throughout the magazine.

3/6 update

We are finally in March and this past week has been a bumpy road. I lost my document with an article about law of attraction, luckily the rest of my articles are on physical paper. I have finished my article for the mental health aspects of dance. My partner is working on the format of the magazine on canva and is writing the article on the law of attraction and i am writing the other articles to put inside. I now have to write 3 more articles that we will include in our magazine. We are including the law of attraction, music vs mood, how dance affects peoples mood positively and negatively, and how school affects mental health of students. All of these articles are around the same idea of mental health.  The law of attraction -The law of attraction is basically manifestation and the belief of how an outlook of a situation changes it for the better. For example, if you look on your situation positively it will get better and help mental health.  Music vs Mood -Music vs m...

Today we selected the people whom we are going to photograph. They are Olivia and Ella are they are dancers at the local dance studio called Studio 61. They are going to be posing in ballet clothes or any dance clothes for our photographs throughout our magazine about dancers mental health.  Olivia will pose in a tilt not on point for a photo like this... -> And Ella will pose in a front attitude not on point like this... ->

February 22nd update

I wrote another piece for our article. Dance is the soul of the brain and our soul needs nourishing. The point of this piece is to go on the contrary of how dance is harmful but instead to show how it can actually help mental health. Dance can be very calming when it is used correctly. Overall dance can be good for the mind, body, and soul.  -we are going to do a photo shoot with our friends who are dancers with pictures like these

today i wrote a piece idea for a article in the news paper. i want to focus on how ballet is affecting the mental health of dancers. the body dysmorphia it can cause as well as so much more. it’s dangerous as it takes a toll on their bodies and minds. this is what i went into in this piece. i also wrote a sketch on how i want the picture on this page to look. it is of a ballet dancer looking beautiful in an arabesque. i plan to take a picture of my ballet friend victoria doing the same pose for our newspaper. this would be one of the first pages in the booklet. I also took inspiration by the behind the curtain ballet dancers mental health website.
